Miscellany Monday and Weekend Recap

It's Monday again....
and time to link up with Carissa for

On Friday night, Chuck and I hosted Postgame on Main at our church.  I made cheese dip to go with corn chips, and then we had a donation of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs!  We had a fair number of teenagers to come in, mostly (hungry) boys, and, as usual, a good time was had by all!
(More about Postgame later in this post...)

Saturday morning, we all slept late.  Those few extra hours of shut-eye was very much needed for everyone in the family.  We had a late lunch at Sub Depot and then Chuck and I rode over to Cheraw to Wal-Mart to pick up a few household necessities.  Saturday afternoon, the kids and I played Monopoly, and I lost miserably!  After walking away from the table with my tail tucked between my legs, I cooked chicken enchiladas and Mexican rice for supper....YUM!!

I had to have a little talk with MJ on Saturday...a serious talk.  She is growing up very fast and I'm trying my best to handle situations.  Lord, help me.

I started Sunday lunch before going to Sunday school:  baked chicken, rice, gravy, stuffing, and green beans.  It was ready before 1:00, and everything was delicious, if I do say so myself!

Lawren and I went shopping in Laurinburg Sunday afternoon.  I felt like I needed to get her a few more dressy items to wear to church.  We found some nice black slacks, a cute top, and a dress that really looks good on her.  I also bought a nice blue dress for MJ, and gifts for Chuck's birthday.  Then, thankfully, I was able to round up all of the children to go to the church picnic at 5:00.  I was not surprised that mostly older people attended, but the food was really good....and I didn't have to cook!

(Here's the "more" about Postgame...)
I learned at Sunday school that there are some people in our church who don't think that we should host Postgame on Main, the after-football-game activity, for various being that our church has to foot the cost!  Well, the only cost involved in opening the gym on Friday nights after a home football game is the cost of electricity for about 3 hours!  I purchase the refreshments (or they are donated) and I don't turn in any receipts for reimbursement.  The teenagers that attend are from the community and just need/want a place to go and hang out and have fun.  The kids who come up to the church are welcomed with open arms, are given drinks and snacks, and then they either sit around and talk with friends, or play basketball, pool, or ping-pong.  They are supervised by adults and are in a safe environment.  Like I said in Sunday school, if these people would come up to the church on a Friday night, meet the teenagers, talk with them, and get to know some of them, they would see that this mission is worthy and should be continued, whatever the cost that is incurred by the church.
(Now, I've said my peace....sorry for the rant!)

Please go check out her blog, make the commitment to link up everyday during the month of November, and tell everyone for what or for whom your are most thankful.

I'm sure you will not regret participating.  While our family has its own minor trials and tribulations, taking a few minutes daily to reflect on our blessings is well worth the time and energy!

My Happy List

I'm happy...

..that I had time to make a peanut butter and honey sandwich for my breakfast.

..because I verified my students' grades on the computer and the lowest grades were in the mid-80's!  Way to go y'all!  I'm so proud of you!!

..because my house was full of teenagers last night, carving pumpkins, talking, and having fun!

..that our principal told the faculty that we can wear jeans to school on Friday because it is the last Friday in the month AND we can wear them on Monday because we are having College Application Day for seniors!  I love soft, cotton, comfy jeans!!

..because today is probably the last day of varsity volleyball season.  We travel to Chapin today to play a #1 ranked  team, and we are ranked only 4th in our region.  Anyway, good luck girls!  Go Bulldogs!!

..everyday I am reminded to set my priorities and let irrelevant things go.
..because I am a child of perfect, but forgiven!

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @
lowercase letters

I'm linking up once again with Carissa for this weeks edition of
Miscellany Monday...

All in all, we had a good weekend.  It was a busy one, and a FUN one!
I just love it when things work out for everyone involved...

Friday night, the Bulldogs played Hartsville.  Lawren and a couple of her friends went and got there and back safely.  The Bulldogs beat the Foxes by 2 points, 21 to 19, and with that win, became the Region 6, AAA champs.

Early Saturday morning, Chuck, the girls and I went over to Florence for a tour of FDTC and then a softball showcase workout with the team.  We had a very nice visit, the school is very nice and has a lot to offer, but I think L and MJ would be better off at a college that has dorms on campus and is maybe a little farther away from home.

Tragedy struck the family of a dear friend.  Walt K. was found dead in his home this morning by his mother.  His wife, Michelle, was my first good friend when I moved to MEMS to work back in 2000.  Walt was such a young man, and his death is difficult to accept.  He leaves behind two young sons, his wife, and loving, caring parents.  God bless you, Walt.  You are whole again and resting peacefully in the arms of the Savior, and continued prayers for your family during this tough time.

MJ, Josh, and a few other friends carved pumpkins tonight.  Here's a pic of MJ's creation...

The varsity vb team will travel to Chapin tomorrow afternoon for their first (and hopefully not last) playoff game.  Let's go Lady Dawgs....continue to make us PROUD!!

Here at school, we've been talking about fire prevention and drawing posters for the 2011 4-H Fire Safety contest.  The theme for this years contest is "Protect Your Family From Fire."  You can go "here" to see some of the posters my students have completed...

Since I live with two firefighters (my husband and son) and have fire, fire department and fire safety on my mind most every day, I decided to post some songs related to my guys, and some just plain fun fire songs in general....
Hope you ENJOY!!
