My Happy List

I'm happy...

..that I had time to make a peanut butter and honey sandwich for my breakfast.

..because I verified my students' grades on the computer and the lowest grades were in the mid-80's!  Way to go y'all!  I'm so proud of you!!

..because my house was full of teenagers last night, carving pumpkins, talking, and having fun!

..that our principal told the faculty that we can wear jeans to school on Friday because it is the last Friday in the month AND we can wear them on Monday because we are having College Application Day for seniors!  I love soft, cotton, comfy jeans!!

..because today is probably the last day of varsity volleyball season.  We travel to Chapin today to play a #1 ranked  team, and we are ranked only 4th in our region.  Anyway, good luck girls!  Go Bulldogs!!

..everyday I am reminded to set my priorities and let irrelevant things go.

..because I am a child of God....no perfect, but forgiven!

All in all, we had a good weekend.  It was a busy one, and a FUN one!

I just love it when things work out for everyone involved...

Friday night, the Bulldogs played Hartsville.  Lawren and a couple of her friends went and got there and back safely.  The Bulldogs beat the Foxes by 2 points, 21 to 19, and with that win, became the Region 6, AAA champs.

Early Saturday morning, Chuck, the girls and I went over to Florence for a tour of FDTC and then a softball showcase workout with the team.  We had a very nice visit,the school is very nice and has a lot to offer, but I think L and MJ would be better off at a college that has dorms on campus and is maybe a little farther away from home.

Tragedy struck the family of a dear friend.  Walt K. was found dead in his home this morning by his mother.  His wife, Michelle, was my first good friend when I moved to MEMS to work back in 2000.  Walt was such a young man, and his death is difficult to accept.  He leaves behind two young sons, his wife, and loving, caring parents.  God bless you, Walt.  You are whole again and resting peacefully in the arms of the Savior, and continued prayers for your family during this tough time.

The varsity vb team will travel to Chapin tomorrow afternoon for their first (and hopefully not last) playoff game.  Let's go Lady Dawgs....continue to make us PROUD!!

..to be sad about the loss of exotic animal-life in Ohio.  The news reports and pictures of the aftermath are horrific!

 

..to let all of my students participate in the 4-H Fire Safety Poster Contest.  Even though they high school-age students, they don't academically perform on a high school level.  Their ranges of abilities are as different as their ranges of  artistic abilities.

..to follow the rules and be consistent....and want others to do the same!

..to be ecstatic that regular season varsity volleyball is over.  The first round of playoffs is Oct.27 in Chapin, and honestly, that will probably be the only playoff game the Lady Dawgs play.

..to hear thru the grapevine that the Carolina Cyclones will cease to exist after this season ends.  Lawren and MJ were probably not going to continue to participate in showcase softball anyway...

..to thank Jesus that all is well with my sweet niece and her husband's little one.  Prayers were once again answered.

..for MJ to believe that she and her bf are "taking a temporary break" from each other.  I've used that line myself and I know what it means.

..to take four Pepcid AC's in a 24-hour period....isn't it?

..to be overjoyed that I have a meeting scheduled for 12:30 today to dismiss one of my former students.  He no longer qualifies for services, and that is a good thing!

..for me not to go to the volleyball match in Latta this afternoon.  Hopefully they will win, even without me there to cheer them on.

..to plan for just leftovers for supper tonight.  I've cooked for the past three nights in a row so we have plenty of food in the refrig we can heat up.

..to be sad that Charles loves to hunt...I feel so sorry for the innocent animals who are gunned down while they are just hanging out in the woods.

(Yes, I understand survival of the fittest, thinning out the herd/flock, etc., but still, I'm sad...)

..to love my job/career so much!  My students are very spirited and try so hard to be academically successful!  I'm super proud of all of them!!

..that high school volleyball season is about over!  There have been too many inconsistencies and way too much favoritism shown this season.  New coach for next year, please!

..that this weekend's softball tournament in Greensboro is NOT a showcase tournament.  The girls will just be playing "trophy ball," so we should all have fun!

..that I finally remembered to bring the B&BW Winter Candy Apple lotion to school!  Now all of my students and I can smell like one of my favorite fragrances!

..that tonight is a Survivor night! 

..and, of course and as always, I'm loving my fam[ily].

Miscellany Monday

I know it's late, but this is the first time I've settled down enough

I just got home from the girls' volleyball match in Cheraw.  Cheraw won the first game, and then Marlboro won the next three since they were playing best 3 out of 5.  Lawren and Mary Jo played really good.  I'm a proud mama to my very own Lady Dawgs!!

And while I'm on the subject of volleyball....

Some people at the game were so OBNOXIOUS!!  And they are parents of the players....and I really don't understand their behavior!  How can you talk so ugly and with such a negative attitude when your daughter and her friends are the ones on the court playing?!?  This talk was coming from both sides, but especially from one of the Marlboro fathers!  I was embarrassed for our whole community!

Lawren and I stopped by Sonic on the way home from match to pick up a bite for supper.  Lawren got a huge cheeseburger and I ordered mozzarella sticks....and a foot long hot dog!  I NEVER order hot dogs!  It was pretty good but I sure don't want another for a good long while!

Laundry never ends, does it?  I feel like I'm caught in a constand cycle of washing, drying, folding, putting away....repeat!

The weather is finally cooler here in beautiful SC.  The thermometer read 40 degrees this morning when Chuck and I were going to school.  I'm not sure what the high for today was but it was a drastic difference from last week at this time.

Monday morning came way too early this morning.  After spending the weekend in Rock Hill at a softball tournament, I needed a few more hours to rest and relax.

I'm the proud mama of an EMT student!  Charles started going to NETC tonight for a six-month-long EMT class....that's being funded by Marlboro Rescue!  I'm so happy that he has committed to the program!  Way to go Charles!

[three]

I'm watching JR and Karina on "Dancing With the Stars" and WOW!  They are super!!  I'm not usually a fan of dancing and/or singing shows, but this is well worth the time!

[four]

Lawren ate peanut butter on her hot dog and French fries tonight for supper...what's up with that? 

[five]

I truly learned something today at school.  All teenagers seem to be procrastinators!  Two  of my kids came in today and said that they had biology projects due TODAY!!  They had to turn in a model of either a plant cell or an animal cell made from household items....no paper or drawing!  We found play dough, some beads, two safety pins, a bag of wiggle eyes, and a dusty shoe box and managed to eek out two projects in a little over an hour!  It was taxing, but certainly worth the effort on everyone's part....

Miscellany Monday

Lawren has tonsilitis....

I don't think it is a bad case, but when she woke up Saturday morning, she was complaining of an earache on top of the sore throat complaint of Friday.  We drove over to Laurinburg to the Urgent Care, saw a PA, and picked up her prescription.    She's feeling much better now, thank goodness!

There's a varsity volleyball match this afternoon in Dillon.  The girls played good last week but lost out against Crestwood and Camden, but beat Darlington.  They've practiced a lot, and I guess we will see if that pays off this afternoon.

One of my students was singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" today in class!  I wish that I could have recorded him....it was precious!  True, he's a high schooler, but he's so sweet and good-spirited in his own way.  His song made me smile :)

Today is the last day of school before intercession for my former school.  They will be out for a three week break since they are a year-round school.  I sure wish that I was face-to-face with a vacation when I awakened in the morning.

I've finally made an appointment with my family doctor to have my sinus infection checked out.  I've suffered long enough.  My appt. is Friday morning at 9:30.  We have parent/teacher conferences Thurs. evening and Fri. morning, so I'll probably not miss too much!

..not to travel to the MCHS varsity volleyball tri-match in Camden today...gas is still soooo expensive!  GO LADY BULLDOGS!!

...to have a strong dependency on my dictionary.

...to be happy and sad at the same time because my student, David, is back at school today.  His mama died on Sept. 4, and because the family had no life insurance and no means to pay for a funeral, she was cremated by the state. 

...to love Nivea skin cream.

...to have a slow day every now and then.  I just don't feel like doing a

whole-heck-of-a-lot today!

...to believe in the adage, "The guilty one speaks first."

...to hope that Charles has fun on the first day of deer season, but to also hope that he doesn't kill an innocent deer.

I'm loving

the MCHS volleyball team.  They played in a tournament this past weekend in Orangeburg, and the regular season starts on Sept. 12th.  Go Bulldogs!!

I'm loving

that my students and I are studying responsibility, setting goals and managing stress.  The kids are paying attention and learning a lot.  I'm very, very proud of all of them!

I'm loving

that the Carolina Cyclones are playing in a showcase tournament this weekend in Florence. The girls will play three games on Saturday (10:40 AM, 2:00 PM, and 6:40 PM), and two games on Sunday (2:40 and 4:20 PM).  I'm certainly looking forward to the time we'll spend at Freedom Florence, and hope that the weather is nice!
