Top 2 Tuesday

Top 2 Favorite gifts you have received
{one}
In 1994, on the 55th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Chuck surprised me with a boxed gift set that included the movie on DVD, a CD of all of the movie's music, several B&W photos from the film, and a copy of the script.  I was so excited!  I could hardly believe that I actually had the script of the movie....I don't really need it though since I have the entire movie memorized.  Anyway, it was a fabulous gift that I still treasure today.

When I was a junior at Winthrop, my Uncle DeWitt gave me money to order my college class ring.  I was so happy because I had anticipated having a class ring for years....I didn't get a high school class ring because I knew I really wanted a college ring.  Anyway, I got the traditional Winthrop College ring in yellow gold with a black onyx stone.  I wore the ring every day.  When I was teaching my first year, I lost the ring.  Needless to say I was devastated!
Years later when Chuck and I were dating and he was a graduate student at Winthrop, he ordered me another class ring exactly like the one Uncle DeWitt bought for me.  I still wear the ring today, and will probably always wear it.  Both of these rings were favorite gifts because both were from extra special and important men in my life.

Day Zero Project - 101 in 1001

I've marked yet another item off of my Day Zero Project list....

74. Purge "extra sock" basket
The socks in this basket have been accumulating for years....
You know there is always a orphan sock or two when
the laundry comes out of the dryer!
Yesterday afternoon, I took time to go through the socks in the
basket and match up any that could even remotely pass as the same...
and then dumped the rest!
I never thought that an empty clothes basket could make me
feel like a winner!!!  YAY ME!!!

30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 22

[Day 22]
Favorite City
I'm linking up with Katie K. for the next month or so for the 30 Day Blog Challenge.
Wish me, and everyone else who's participating, perseverance and good luck!

This may sound crazy, but my favorite city is actually the small town in which I was born and raised....
CHERAW, SC

I can think of no other town that is as beautiful as Cheraw.  The town is covered with beautiful old trees and colorful azaleas, not to mention flower beds that change each season.  You can see daffodils in the spring, marigolds in the summer, and pansies in the fall and winter in front of public buildings, family dwellings, and in the medians of the tree-lined streets.

Not only is the town pretty, it is historic.  Cheraw was a stopping point for General Sherman's march to the sea.  St. David's Episcopal Church was set up as a make shift hospital during the Revolutionary War.  Pictured below are some of the must-see sites in town.

Famous jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie was born in Cheraw and a statue
depicting him is displayed on the Town Green.

Market Hall and Cheraw Town Hall
Like I said, I was born and raised in "The Prettiest Town in Dixie" and even though I live only 15 miles away, I long to live there again.  Maybe someday in the future we can move back across the river to my sweet hometown.

Miscellany Monday

[one]
I have changed my job....I am no longer a 5th - 8th grade sp. ed. ELA teacher.  I work with K - 2nd grade sp. ed. students.  Years ago I taught PK - 5th grade sp. ed., but when I changed schools, I moved to the middle school age level.  Now I'm back to the little kids....babies, when compared to the ones I'm used to.  I think it will be so much fun....I'm enjoying the change already!!

Charles shot his first deer over the weekend.  He went hunting with a buddy of Chuck's.  He killed a doe and was so proud.  I'm proud too!

[three]
High school basketball practice starts today.  L says she is going to play but MJ is undecided as of now.  Hopefully she'll go ahead and join the team so we can all be on the same schedule.

[four]
Josh is home!  He came over yesterday as we were eating lunch, and then came back for Chuck's birthday supper last night.  I'm so glad to have him back in Marlboro County.

[five]
Chuck and Charles have a fire dept. meeting tonight so it will just be the girls and me together this afternoon and evening.  Wonder what we can get into?

I have taken up the "2010 GivingThanks Challenge" from Leah from Iowa's page.  This challenge is going to give me the opportunity to reflect on my blessings, appreciate the things that I may often take for granted, and humbly give thanks for the gifts that God has given me.  I encourage everyone reading this to get on board with us.  Visit South Breeze Farm and link up with Leah and the group.

Happy Monday Everyone!!

2010 Giving Thanks Challenge

http://southbreezefarm.blogspot.com/2010/10/2010-giving-thanks-challenge.html
When I heard about the Giving Thanks Challenge hosted by South Breeze Farm, I just knew that I had to participate.  I have so much in my life to be thankful for.  Often times, things that I take for granted are the biggest blessings of all.

So I am going to dive into this.  I will keep a running tally on my right-hand sidebar.  I may do a blog post here and there, as the Lord leads if I feel there is something that I want to share more about.

Would you consider joining in this challenge?  He is so good and I would love to hear of His goodness towards you in these next 30 days.  Be sure and visit South Breeze Farm to find out more and to link up.
Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
(Psalm 105:1-2)
