Miscellany Monday - October 4, 2010

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters
This is the last week of my intercession....woe is me...  I've not accomplished half of what I wanted to accomplish.  School starts back for teachers on Friday and the students come back next Monday.  I guess I'm ready to go back so I can see all of the kids, but I'm not looking forward to getting up early again.

The girls and I spent the weekend painting pumpkins.  Christ UMC is having a fundraiser to raise money for the youth group's activities (I've proboably mentioned that before)...but anyway, we've been taking orders from customers and have been decorating pumpkins....I'll post some pics soon...  We've had so much fun together, and L and MJ are so artistic!  I'm so proud of them!!

Ugh...LAUNDRY!  I have a pile about 4 feet high that I have to tackle!  I guess I'll spend my whole Monday waiting for the dryer to buzz so I  make the rotation....fold and hang up dry clothes, put wet clothes in dryer, dirty clothes in washer....it's never ending!

Post Game on Main was super on Friday night!  We had 99 kids come hang out at our church after the Bulldog football game!  One of my 101 in 1001 goals is to "grow" this ministry, and hopefully I'm on the right track..
Our church sign proudly displays an invitation for Post Game on Main...
Zach, Hailey, Maddie, Bri

Wayne and Kevin
T-Mo and Whit

CUMC ladies who helped out by selling concessions
Jamison, Conner, and David
Conner and Hayden
Lastly, it's a beautiful FALL day here in SC with cooler temps.  I thank God for the rain last week because we so desperately needed it, but I'm glad that it is gone.  The creek running through our town got so high that streets were flooded and several neighborhoods had to be evacuated.  All of that water has receded now, and we can just enjoy the world that God made for us!

Hope everyone has a most-awesome Monday and a great week!

Meet Me on Monday

Questions:

1. What is the best dish you can make?  Ummm, that's a toss up between chicken bog and the variety of salads I make....potato salad, cole slaw, bean salad, broccoli salad, etc....

2. How often do you change your sheets?  We change them about twice a month.
3. What is the longest car trip you have ever taken?  My sister and I drove a moving van from Charlotte, NC, to Berkeley, CA, via El Paso, TX.....it took 5 days!
4. What is your favorite fruit?  I love berries....blue-, black-, straw-, rasp-....you get the picture..

5. Would you rather have breakfast for dinner or dinner for breakfast?  Breakfast for dinner (supper, here in the south) is great.  My husband loves grits and eggs or pancakes/waffles and sausage for supper!

Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010

What a beautiful day here in SC!  The weather could not possibly be any nicer!  It was a little cool early this morning but it warmed up to a perfect 75 degrees....absolutely terrific!

Our day started early.  We all got up and went to eat breakfast with Beulah, Viv, and Jincey.  After breakfast, the kids and I went to CUMC to work at their Harvest Festival and Car Wash.  They are raising money for the youth to go on several trips early in 2011.  They had pumpkins, mums, Indian corn, gourds, and squash for sale.

I spent the day painting pumpkins....many pumpkins!   People were placing orders and buying the ones I had finished as fast as I could turn them out.  The girls helped out a lot, and so did Jessica F.  She painted some really beautiful ones with sunflowers.  I really enjoyed working with her today and getting to know her better.  She's a really sweet young girl.

About the middle of the afternoon, the kids asked if they could go "mud bogging" with Sam and McKayla.  They'd worked so hard at the church that I decided to let them go for a little while.  Hopefully they will be safe and will come home all in one piece....oh yea, and have fun too!

I guess Chuck and I will run out and grab a bite later on.  He's busy at MCHS using his computer to do his monthly BFD paperwork.  I hope he'll be on home soon.

Well, that's today's recap thus far.  If anything exciting happens, I'll update later....

BWS tips button

  1. You get a million dollars, what's the first thing you buy?  I'd buy the services of a handyman to work on the exterior of our house.
  2.  What do you consider to be the best things about yourself?  (Your best qualities, what you like about yourself etc.)  I'm patient and easy-going....and crafty!
  3.  What do you consider to be your weaknesses?   I'm not very organized, and I HATE to clean house.... :(
  4.  Have you ever made a scene in public? Elaborate!  Several Many times....most recently, in a dept. store when L and MJ walked away from me because they were mad and I yelled their names really, really loud and told them to come to where I was....they came really quickly too!  They were "so embarrassed."
  5. Any annoying quirks you possess?  When making a sandwich, the bread has to line up correctly and exactly....Chuck calls me the "bread police."  It drives him crazy....
  6. Are you more aggressive or passive in your personality?  Mostly passive....I don't get riled up very easily, but when I do, watch out!  I'll tell you what's wrong with you and everyone in your   whole family....

Day Zero Project - 101 in 1001

Well, today is the day!  Today, October 1, 2010, is the day that I officially start my Day Zero Project, and I'm so excited!  I worked very diligently and thoughtfully on my list of goals.  Like I've said before, a lot of soul-searching and serious consideration ran through my brain and heart when making this list.  I struggled at times as to what I should include and what I should leave out, but I think I've come up with the items that will be meaningful and fruitful in the end.

I've chosen to post my list of goals on the left-hand side of my blog page so that they will be readily available for my review.  It is hoped that having them "right there and in-my-face" daily, I will strive to accomplish each and every one with confidence, skill, and grace....and with the knowledge that by taking on each task, I will be improving myself, the people that I care about, and the world.

I'm also planning to document the completion of each of my goals here on my blog....it is certain to  be an on-going project, and I'm looking forward to every minute with great anticipation.  The positive results that come from this project may be life-altering!  So.....let's push on toward the ending date in 2.75 years...June 29, 2013!
