What I'm Loving Wednesday

One of my favorites....
What I'm Loving Wednesday!
Go link up with Jamie and join us.

I'm loving that the Lady Dawgs are still in it to win it!!  After last Friday night's upsetting loss to St. James, I thought that they were finished....but I was wrong!  Last night we traveled to Georgetown and played another team of Lady Bulldogs.  The score was 1-0 Georgetown when lightning lit up the sky and the game was halted.  It's the top of the 4th inning, we have one out, a runner on 2nd, and Kayla and Lawren are coming up to bat. We will drive back to Georgetown this evening to finish the game and I'll hopefully post a MCHS winning score tomorrow!
I'm loving that I only have one more day of school for this week after today.  On Friday, I'm going back to my former school, McColl Elem./Middle, to tie dye with the 6th graders.  It is a tradition that they wear tie dyed shirts on field day!  I cannot wait to go back and see all of the teachers and students for a day!
These are the shirts that I dyed with Grayson and Joy
last week for MA's field day!
I'm loving the new book that i picked up from Books-A-Million....
The Shadow of Your Smile by Mary Higgins Clark.
And, as always, I'm loving my super smart and sweet spouse and my three temperamental teenagers....
PS:  Just found out that the field in Georgetown is too wet to play on so today's game is cancelled.  We'll travel South on Thursday evening to finish up the game!
Go (MCHS) Lady Dawgs!!

Tribute Tuesday

Photobucket

Janette over at The Johanson Journey sponsors
Tribute Tuesday
each week but she seems to be a little discouraged due to lack of participation.  I think it's a wonderful idea and I look forward to joining in each week!
Join in too, if you please!

Since it's my first week, and Mother's Day just passed, of course I'm going to send out a tribute to my mama, Harriet Hodges Davis.

Mama was born Feb. 9, 1918, to Cornelia and Frank Evans.  She was their middle child.  Her brother DeWitt was older, and her sister Anne was younger.  At age 8, she moved to Jacksonville, FL, to live with her aunt and uncle and was later adopted by them (long story as to why this came about....maybe I'll get into it in another entry...)

Anyway, after finishing high school in Florida, Mama moved to Columbia and worked for the WPA since it was war time.  She lived at "Hope Autry's Boarding House for Exclusive Young Ladies," and started dating my daddy, Lawrence Davis, who was in the army and stationed at Fort Jackson.  They were married on October 3, 1941, in Columbia.

Together mama and daddy had five children:  Larry, Chandler, Frank, John, and me, Jo, the youngest.

In December of 1965, my daddy died, and mama was left with five children, ranging in age from 22 to 4 (me).  She was 47.

My mama worked hard to take care of us.  She raised us the best she could and, in my opinion, did a good job.  All five of us had a wonderful role model of strength, independence, and determination in her.  Times were hard on occasion, but we never lacked.  We children all had what we needed, but maybe not all we wanted, but that was OK.  We had each other and a loving, caring mama to teach us right from wrong, respect, generosity, and the importance of family and our heritage.

My mama died in March of 1998 at the age of 80.

Truly, there will never be another soul like hers.  She was one of a kind, and I miss her terribly.  I really wish that my children had memories of her because she loved them so much.  She will always live on in my heart and mind and in my sweet reminiscing.

I love you Mama...

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

What a wonderful Mother's Day weekend we had!  Chuck tried really hard to make sure that my time was special, and he was successful.  I enjoyed spending time with him and the children.
Here's something that made me really happy this weekend....
Josh's grandmama, Margie, sent me this delicious chocolate cake as a thank you for helping Josh out with his school work.  Of course, the gesture was appreciated, but I totally love helping him out!

The Lady Dawgs lost Friday night!  Boo!  They played the (amazing) St. James Sharks, a very well-coached team.  The Sharks could hit, run, AND play defense.  Our girls made a few too many errors, and those combined with the other teams skills, caused a loss for our team.  We will play again tomorrow night against the loser of the Hartsville vs. Georgetown game.
Graduation time is right around the corner for the class of 2011.  Today they are taking a group picture of all of the seniors in their caps and gowns, and Charles is not at school.  He and the golf team traveled to Darlington to play for spots at the Lower State tourney.
But this guy had his cap and gown and had his picture taken....
Darius
I've definitely neglected working on my Day Zero Project (101 in 1001) as of  late.  I've let a few of the goals fall by the wayside but I'm going to do my best to catch up on them.  Keep an eye out for future updates....hopefully they'll be posted sooner rather than later!

Have a wonderful week everyone, and
be sure to go link up with Carissa....I did!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day, especially to all of the mothers in my family.  There are so many shining examples of motherhood in our family, beginning not with this current generation, but going back many, many decades.

My beautiful mama, Harriet Hodges Evans Hodges Davis, was the absolute best mama ever.  Widowed with five children, she raised all of us to be caring and kind, independent and rational, educated and successful, and loving and forgiving.  She was my best friend, my confidant, and my role model.  She, without a doubt, made me who I am today.  I love her and miss her more than anyone will ever know, and look forward to the day when I see her again.

There are many other selfless, loving, beautiful mothers in my family also.  Here are just a few....
My wonderful sister-in-law, Kathy....and my beautiful niece Kit
My sweet sister-in-law Gayle

My brave niece Christi, and her daughter, Victoria

Not only my niece, but my friend....
Mary, and her sons John and Harvey

Chuck's mother Beulah, and his sister, Vivian...
along with the rest of the family
A Davis family matriarch, Aunt Mary
My loving sister, Chandler
My quiet, caring sister-in-law Teresa
