Fill in the Blank Friday

1. My most favorite "little thing" is sleeping late on Saturdays, and then getting up and hanging around the house in my nightclothes.... .

2. I give anything to for the children to willingly help decorate the Christmas tree..

3. I can't believe how awkward it is to talk to some my students about "real life" issues....some of them live on a completely different plane and appear to be being raised by adults with no sense of morals or values. .


4. The one thing I'd like to achieve today is getting the den straightened up so we can semi-decorate for the season....probably won't happen though...


5. The last thing I want to do today is allow stress invade my mind and heart..

6. If I were writing my own blank today, it would say: ...For me, the true meaning of Christmas is...                                  .


7. My favorite candle scent is Twisted Peppermint from Bath and Body Works..

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a quiet time with my family, tomorrow my plans include a play in Columbia, followed by the Lights Before Christmas as the zoo and Sunday, I want to put up our Christmas tree (better late than never)!

Fill in the Blank Friday

1. The holiday season is  a time for being with friends and family, enjoying good food, and remembering the reason for the season.

2. Snow makes me extremely anxious.  Ever since I totaled my van several years ago, I HATE every flake that falls!  It stresses me out!

3. The best comfort food to eat when it's cold out is  soup or chili and crackers or chicken bog... 

4. Winter is the best time for cozying up in front of the fire place to watch TV or read a book...

5. I can hardly wait for Christmas break from school.  That is when I start really decorating, shopping, and cooking....

6. When it comes to holiday gifts I prefer to give them. I prefer to donate to recognized charitable organizations in honor of someone in lieu of a gift.

7. If I were to rate my excitement about the holiday season on a scale from 1-10, I would say I am at about a   5 or so.  Since our children are teenagers, it's just not as exciting as it used to be.  I find a lot of my excitement now in remembering the real reason for the season....

1. One of my favorite things about December that it is finally cold enough (on some days) to build a fire in the fireplace.

3. This is what I'm hoping for today/tonight: I hope that the gift that I plan to give is accepted.

1. My favorite thing about this week was/is that it was both my husband's birthday and my birthday too! .

2. Colder weather makes me   sad...I do not like cold weather!  I am a HOT weather girl for sure...      .

3. Three things that make me terribly happy as of late are     the Food Network show Chopped, International Delight pumpkin latte creamer for my morning coffee, and various catalogs that come in the mail... 

4. If I could only wear one kind of shoe for the rest of my life, I'd choose    Birkenstocks....they are comfortable in any season! 

5. My personality type is     patient, tolerant, nurturing, enabling...and those traits are both good and bad.. .

6. I have a serious problem resisting     the internet...I'm not much of a surfer, but I check certain sites several times a day....

7. My favorite color to wear is   green...and denim .

1. When I was a kid I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up...(and I am!).

2. As an adult, my dream job would be   exactly what I'm doing....a self-contained, special education teacher at the high school level....I <3 my school, my students, and my career!! .

3. W hen I was younger I wanted to be just like my older brothers' friends....they were so beautiful and cool!

4. The childhood Halloween costume that I remember most was when I was   a princess.  I stepped on and dragged  wore my sister-in-law's prom dress while trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. .

5. My favorite childhood toy was    my Barbies....and how I wished that my daughters would love Barbies as much as I did....that way I could relive those wonderful days of my childhood and play with them all afternoon.....

6. The time I got into the biggest amount of trouble when I was a kid was when I    got mad with my brother and picked up a small rocking chair and threw it at him....it broke to pieces....sorry John...:( .

7. I get daily inspiration from     my students, my children, my husband, and the beautiful realization that Jesus loves me just as I am...

Fill in the Blank Friday

1. Nothing says fall like    colorful, falling leaves, plump, orange pumpkins, and the smell of cinnamon and apples in the air....

2. My favorite autumnal tradition is   taking in all of the beautiful colors and signs of autumn in our beautiful community....

3. My favorite fall treat is   pumpkin muffins....so easy! Here's the recipe...

4. Fall makes me think of  completion because  all of the old is gathered up and put away, and then the winter cold and snow cleanses before the new growth in sprint....

5. Autumn free form word association, go! cinnamon, pumpkins, mums, leaves, apples, sweaters, Thanksgiving.....

6. My go-to outfit in the fall is a pair of jeans, a turtleneck, sweater, and clogs....

7. My favorite fall holiday is (Halloween or Thanksgiving) Thanksgiving.....my favorite holiday of the YEAR!  I love the memories that I have of Thanksgivings past...of family and food and fun!  I love being with my own family, cooking and eating, togetherness and snuggling around the fireplace,  and enjoying the loveliness of the season...

Please share with us something that you do to prepare for this changing weather.

There's not a whole lot we here in the deep South have to do to get ready for the changing weather.  We are currently having our first snap of cooler weather, meaning that the low is in the 40's and the daily high is in the upper 60's, and those temps will settle in and are pretty usual for most of the fall and winter.  I turned on the heat pump for the first time today...and let the dust burn off of the unit.  I'll just set the thermostat on about 68 degrees and leave it alone for the rest of fall and for most of the winter.  We'll probably buy another truckload of oak to burn in the fireplace, but that's mainly for ambiance, not heat.  Of course, if the weather ever threatens to snow, we Southerners have to go to the grocery store and buy a carton of milk and a loaf of bread...gotta love snow-induced panic shopping in SC!
